NEWS ANCHOR (MORNING) - WFIE
Job Summary/Description:
14 News, the award-winning dominant number-one station in Evansville, Indiana is seeking a strong candidate to co-anchor our weekday morning newscast. We are looking for an aggressive anchor who is passionate about covering local news and weather. The ideal candidate should be an energetic “morning person” who can give viewers something to look forward to in the mornings. We need someone who can solo-anchor when necessary for several hours. We seek an anchor who will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, provide content through our streaming platforms, and come up with energetic ideas for editorial meetings.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Anchoring at least 2.5 hours of news a day, as well as morning OTT hits as assigned
- Serving in a leadership role, assisting in overnight editorial decisions
- Collaborating and assisting show producers with the acquisition, treatment, and writing of news content
- Researching, gathering, writing, and editing news stories for on-air and online
- Writing in a clear, concise, conversational manner
- Possessing excellent interview and conversational writing/presentation skills
- Reporting “live” on the scene during breaking news or weather
- Report on special projects as assigned
- Developing and maintaining sources of information
- Demonstrating sound news judgment
- Mentoring other Team members
- Utilizing non-linear editing equipment
- Participating in story selection meetings
- Attending/hosting/speaking at schools, and community events
- Posting and regularly updating stories and other material on the web and social media
- Occasionally shoot stories for newscasts
- Following clothing and appearance guidelines set by news management
- Learning a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
- Producing and anchoring at least 15-30 minutes a day on OTT from the 14 News Digital News Desk studio
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned
- Meeting tight deadlines and working well under pressure
- Maintaining professional and ethical conduct in the station and in the community
- Maintaining a positive work atmosphere
- Staying current with national and local news/weather
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 2-3 years of experience as a television anchor
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is preferred
- Experience with ENPS and Edius editing is a plus
- Ability to shoot and edit videos, write scripts, and effectively communicate live on-air
- Present information in a fair, unbiased manner
